The laboratory
We connect advanced materials, structural mechanics and digital technologies to develop resilient, high-performance engineering systems.
LAMSD is a research laboratory at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. We combine modelling, simulation and experimental insight across aerospace, construction and other demanding industrial sectors.
Research areas
01 / MATERIALSNanomaterials, composites and adaptive structures produced through advanced 3D and 4D printing.
02 / STRUCTURESComposite modelling, damage prediction, buckling and the response of structures across scales.
Finite-element frameworks, optimisation and digital twins connecting physical systems with virtual models.
Research in focus / 4D printing
How does a printed structure respond to heat? Our research connects thermally activated shape morphing with experimental characterisation and finite-element analysis.
From 4D-printed PLA specimens to the published concept of 6D printing, this work explores the relationship between manufacturing strategy and structural response.
